Two retired female petty officers of the Sri Lanka Navy, accused of being involved in the abduction and disappearance of two women in Trincomalee during the war, have been remanded until October 05.
Trincomalee Chief Magistrate M.S.M. Samsudeen ordered that the two suspects be remanded and directed that they be produced for an identification parade on October 05.
The two retired officers, residents of Chilaw and Haputale, were arrested when they appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with another case. They were subsequently produced before the Trincomalee Magistrate’s Court.
The investigation concerns the alleged abduction of two women, Sasikumar Thenmoli and Mary Delsia, who were residents of Palaiyoothu, Trincomalee, on or around May 13, 2008.
The CID informed the court that investigations had revealed information indicating that the two women were allegedly held at an underground location known as the “Gun Site” within the Trincomalee Naval Base while the suspects were in active service. The two women were subsequently reported missing.
The “Gun Site” has been described as an underground detention facility located within the Trincomalee Naval Base. Allegations have also been made that the location was used as an unauthorised detention facility.
Further investigations into the alleged abduction and disappearance are ongoing.
