Two suspects arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting the grenade attack on a house on Sirisangabo Mawatha in Dehiwala, which resulted in the deaths of two children, have been placed under a seven-day detention order.
The two suspects arrested are the individual who allegedly brought the grenade and another person who travelled with him in a three-wheeler. Police said the suspect who brought the grenade had maintained links with a criminal known as Ashwick of Kalubowila since their school days.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects were involved in drug trafficking and that, following instructions from Ashwick, the suspect had travelled to the Galle area and stayed at a lodge, where another individual allegedly handed over the grenade to him.
The suspect later travelled to Ratmalana along Galle Road and stayed in a rented room. Investigations have also revealed that the suspects had travelled to a lodge in Piliyandala.
While there, they allegedly showed the grenade to the suspect known as Ashwick of Kalubowila through a video call, according to investigators.
Police said the grenade was subsequently hidden near a luxury shop in Kalubowila, and the main suspect who carried out the attack had arrived at the location and taken the grenade.
The two arrested suspects are aged 30 and 31 and are residents of the Piliyandala and Kahathuduwa areas, respectively.
