The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs’ Consultative Committee has been informed that national media guidelines have been prepared to protect the dignity, privacy and confidentiality of children when reporting on matters involving them.
The matter was discussed at a committee meeting held in Parliament on September 22, chaired by Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj.
The guidelines aim to ensure the best interests of children while maintaining accuracy and fairness in news reporting.
They also seek to prevent children and their families from being unnecessarily exposed to publicity through print, electronic and social media.
The committee further highlighted the need to protect the dignity and rights of children with disabilities in media reporting.
Deputy Minister Dr. Namal Sudarshana, other Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament and officials of the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs participated in the discussion.
